Details

Many Central Florida consumers are receiving fraudulent phone calls that claim to be from FAIRWINDS Credit Union. These phone calls are scams, which attempt to trick consumers into revealing confidential information, including debit or credit card numbers, PINs or Social Security numbers.

How the scam works:

·        You receive a phone call or voicemail from an entity identifying themselves as “FAIRWINDS Credit Union’s Billing and Payments Department.”

·        The message asks you to “renew” your services by calling a toll free phone number. The message states that if you do not renew immediately, all prior authorizations will be “deleted and deactivated.”

·        Do not call this toll free number.

FAIRWINDS will never ask members to provide confidential information, such as debit or credit card numbers, PINs or Social Security numbers via email, direct mail, or over the phone. If you receive any message asking you to provide this information, please do not respond to it. These messages are fraudulent attempts to collect your personal information.

FAIRWINDS works diligently to ensure your account and your personal information remain safe. If you receive suspicious requests in the future, please contact our Member Services department at (407) 277-5045 or (800) 443-6887. You may also forward these messages to our fraud response group at phishing@fairwinds.org. We encourage you to visit the Federal Trade Commission’s site (www.ftc.gov) to learn more about these types of scams and for additional fraud prevention tips.
